What Everyone Needs to Know About Colon Health

Want to improve the health of your colon? Most experts agree: a healthy, fiber-rich diet is the key to optimal colon health.

Enzynatic Therapy's latest supplement, Pure Care Colon Cleanse, says this isn't true, however. They claim the real key to optimal colon health--and a functioning, healthy digestive system--is frequent colon cleansing, which helps eliminate toxins that can lead to colon dysfunction. Used daily, it reportedly optimizes the health of your digestive system, promoting regular, easy-to-pass bowel movements.

What ingredients are in Enzynatic Therapy Pure Care Colon Cleanse? Enzynatic Therapy Pure Care Colon Cleanse contains psyllium husk, oat bran, magnesium hydroxide, burdock, boldo leaf extract, red clover blossom extract, black radish root, dandelion root extract, artichoke leaf extract and prebiotic acacia gum fiber.

Do the ingredients in Enzynatic Therapy Pure Care Colon Cleanse promote colon cleansing? It can, but only because it forces quick and sometimes painful stool evacuation. This essentially means this product can cause diarrhea.

So what are the main culprits? Psyllium husk and magnesium hydroxide, which are currently classified as laxatives by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Both ingredients have been clinically shown to force the expulsion of waste via the colon, causing frequent and sometimes unpredictable episodes of diarrhea. Sure, you'll experience emptying from your colon like never before, but this can actually be harmful to your digestive system.

Furthermore, the rest of its ingredients play no part in colon cleansing, but it can enhance the effects of psyllium husk and magnesium hydroxide. If there's one guarantee, it's this: you'll spend plenty of time in the bathroom suffering from the possible after-effects of these so-called "safe" laxative stimulants.

Is Enzynatic Therapy Pure Care Colon Cleanse safe? No. Magnesium hydroxide has been shown to cause diarrhea, stomach upset and even vomiting with regular use. Psyllium husk doesn't fare much better either--studies show it can block the esophageal passage, making it a possible choking hazard.

Verdict: Although this product has been shown to promote colon cleansing, it's not necessarily safe. It's why we gave Enzynatic Therapy Pure Care Colon Cleanse a lower grade compared to other colon cleanser. Sure, stool elimination is an absolute necessity in colon cleansing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean consumers have to suffer from painful diarrhea.
