Although most colon cleansers are available as supplements, Co-Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser isn't. Instead, this colon cleanser is available as a three-part colon cleansing kit, which reportedly provides complete cleansing of the colon within three to four weeks of use. And the results are instantaneous: their website reports people experience the “results” within days of use. However, experts are highly critical of its price: just one kit alone costs nearly $100, nearly five times the amount of other colon cleansing kits.

What ingredients are in Co Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser? Co-Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser is a three-part colon cleansing kit. Each part contains the following ingredients:

Cleanse and Flush Tablets: calcium, phosphorus, apple cider vinegar, cascara sagrada bark, chitosan, grapefruit concentrate, senna extract, oat fiber and beet.

Detox Powder: Vitamin C, calcium, psyllium husk, psyllium seed, Oregon grape root, fenugreek seed, hyssop leaf, papaya fruit, peppermint leaf, yellow dock root, anise seed, coriander seed, ginger root, burdock root, chickweed leaf, papain, slippery elm bark, black walnut hulls, carrot, lactobacillus acidophilus, cascara sagrada, cayenne pepper, corn silk, garlic bulb, red raspberry leaf, senna leaf, aloe vera leaf, echinacea purpurea herb and spirulina leaf.

Replenish and Maintenance Chewables: Inulin, psyllium husk and lactobacillus acidophilus.

Do the ingredients in Co-Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser help cleanse the colon? Yes—but only for the short term. According to WebMD.com, both cascara sagrada and senna are FDA classified as stimulant laxatives, which facilitate emptying of the bowel by causing the smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal tract to contract, forcing a bowel movement. Although it can promote bowel movements, it's not necessarily safe: even occasional use can damage the nerves in the gastrointestinal tract, making it harder to have normal bowel movements.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), psyllium husk has also been shown to promote bowel movements—though there's little evidence it can remove toxins. Unlike senna and cascara sagrada, however, psyllium husk isn't dangerous.

Is Co-Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser safe? Not in this case.. Both senna and cascara sagrada can cause nerve damage, leading to laxative dependency, This can worsen constipation, making it harder to have a bowel movement. Left untreated, laxative dependence can cause irritable bowel syndrome (BS), intestinal paralysis and renal failure.

Verdict: Although the ingredients in Co-Clean Detoxifying Colon Cleanser may increase stool elimination, it's not necessarily safe. Overuse of this product may lead to slowed bowel movements, constipation and even nerve damage.
