Constipation--or as Natural Nutrition calls it, "congested bowels"--is becoming increasingly prevalent in the United States, with an estimated 4 million Americans currently suffering from this embarrassing condition.
But now even health experts aren't recommending over-the-counter laxatives, due to the possibility of laxative addiction. Natural Nutrition claims to have the cure for constipation, however, via their newest supplement Colon Care. Containing all-natural psyllium husk, it claims to naturally promote intestinal function, allowing your body to naturally eliminate toxins that can lead to constipation.
What ingredients are in Natural Nutrition Colon Care? Natural Nutrition Colon Care contains cascara sagrada, senna leaves, aloe vera leaf, psyllium husk, uva ursi, dandelion root, ginseng, oatstraw, trace minerals, horsetail, alfalfa, parsley leaf, burdock root, cayenne and acidophilus.
Do the ingredients in Natural Nutrition Colon Care cleanse the colon? Several of its ingredients have been shown to promote emptying of the colon, which can aid in colon cleansing. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, cascara sagrada can help increase movement of the bowel, causing rapid, softer bowel movements.
Senna leaves have also been shown to stimulate the colon wall, causing it to expel impacted waste--and, according to some health experts, dangerous intestinal toxins.
Numerous clinical trials reported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Mayo Clinic also show psyllium promotes healthy digestion because of its rich fiber content, which can prevent constipation. These ingredients aren't necessarily safe, however.
Is Natural Nutrition Colon Care safe? No. Both cascara sagrada and senna can cause rapid, often painful episodes of diarrhea, sometimes accompanied by cramping, vomiting or dizziness. It may also cause an electrolyte imbalance, which can worsen some heart conditions. If you have a pre-existing heart condition, you are urged to seek medical advice prior to taking this supplement.
Verdict: Want fast relief? There's no doubt this supplement has all the makings of a successful--and powerful--colon cleanser. This doesn't mean it's necessarily safe, however.
