Colonix is a nutritionally-based colon cleansing program that claims to utilize the power of intestinal flora--and toxin-busting herbs--to remove toxin buildup from the colon, improving digestion, energy levels, and more importantly, your weight. As far as efficacy is concerned, it's received recommendations--and endorsements-- from both Dr. Heather Johnstone and Dr. Lynn Hardy, leading naturopathic physicians. To enable its detoxifying power, Colonix recommends taking a daily dosage of their Colonix Intestinal Cleaner, paired with their Paranil detoxifying capsules and a cup of their KleriTea herbal beverage, which speeds up the digestive process.
What ingredients are in Colonix? Colonix contains psyllium husks, flax seed, fennel seed, licorice root, aloe vera, grapefruit pectin, papaya fruit, slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, rhubarb root, alfalfa, guar gum, peppermint leaf and uva ursi leaf.
Do the ingredients in Colonix cleanse the colon? There is some evidence Colonix can speed up waste evacuation and regulate gastrointestinal (GI) transit time. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), psyllium husk has been shown to increase bowel movements, both in quantity and the times it takes to leave the GI tract. Numerous studies indicate it can make it easier to have a bowel movement, due to its ability to soften hard or impacted stools. According to an article posted on WebMD.com, guar gum also helps treat irritable bowel syndrome by regulating bowel movements, due to its ability to draw water to the stool, which makes it easier to pass. There is currently no evidence any of Colonix's ingredients help remove toxins from the colon or digestive tract, however.
Is Colonix safe? Colonix is safe, but some mild side effects may be experienced. These side effects include increased gas production, bloating, nausea, stomach cramping and diarrhea.
Verdict: Colonix is fairly effective for cleansing the bowel, but some slight gastrointestinal side effects lowers its grade here. Unlike other colon cleansers, Colonix is fairly gently on the digestive system and can regulate bowel movements for the short or long term.
