Lycozyme Review Does Lycozyme Work?

Lycozyme has one main ingredient: lycopene, a tomato based extract. Lycozyme claims that this ingredient lycopene—not saw palmetto—is the key to maintain good prostate health due to lycopene’s strong antioxidant base. In proving their claim, they cite an unnamed study, in which men who consumed a large amount of tomato based products reported the lowest rates of prostate problems. The manufacturer of Lycozyme (Olympian Labs) claims prostate health improvements can be seen within 30 days, this claim is backed by a money back guarantee.

Lycozyme Ingredients:

Lycozyme contains a 5% standardized lycopene extract resulting in 15 mg of pure lycopene. Also included are some vegetable enzymes (amylase, liapase, cellulose, protease).

Does Lycozyme Work?

It's unlikely. While there are some companies that claim lycopene is capable of preventing and even treating prostate problems, there are no national or international studies supporting the veracity of such statements. To the contrary in fact, a study reported in Epidemiology, Biomarkers, and Prevention found no link between lycopene and prostate problem prevention. There are additional studies as well conforming lycopene’s lack of impact on prostate health maintenance.

Is Lycozyme Safe?

No, Lycopene can actually increase a man’s risk for aggressive prostate problems, i.e. prostate problems that spread outside of the prostate. Accordingly, men with a genetic pre-disposition to prostate problems should consult with a doctor before using this supplement.

Lycozyme Final Grade: Grade: D

Lycozyme’s sole active ingredient (lycopene), in not shown in any major studies to improve or maintain prostate health. In fact studies show it may put men at further risk to prostate problems. Also there is a clear lacking in the Lycozyme product of other ingredients which are already proven to show an improvement in prostate health such as, saw palmetto and pygeum extract. Thusly the reason for Lycozyme’s low grade is due in part to its limited formula and in large part to the fact that this product may be potentially unsafe.
