Sleep MD is a dietary supplement that claims to treat occasional sleeplessness, better known as non-chronic insomnia. It also claims it's scientifically proven to advance sleep onset--or the time it takes to fall asleep.
"Sleep MD was formulated with the latest in cutting-edge micro-engineered technology and was scientifically formulated with a researched key ingredient shown to help you fall asleep faster," says Sleep MD. "In a detailed analysis of multiple studies conducted by sleep researchers, it was found that the primary ingredient (melatonin) in Sleep MD® significantly advanced sleep onset."
This supplement is only intended for occasional use, however--this isn't intended for serious cases of insomnia.
Sleep MD contains magnesium, calcium and a proprietary blend of chamomile powder, melatonin and coenzyme Q10
Melatonin has been shown to treat occasional or chronic insomnia, especially in those suffering from a shortage of melatonin, which commonly occurs within the senior population. According to WebMD.com, a medical website, melatonin "helps control your sleep and wake cycles", and is currently being investigated as a potential treatment for people suffering from temporary sleep problems.
But it's only effective when taken in doses ranging from 0.2 to 20 milligrams--Sleep MD doesn't list how much melatonin is in its supplement, instead choosing to hide its amount in a proprietary blend. Without knowing the actual amount of melatonin in Sleep MD, it's impossible to say if it will be effective for the treatment of occasional insomnia.
Most of its ingredients are clinically safe, although they may cause some mild side effects. These side effects can include changes in blood flow, stomach aches, headaches, lower body temperature and vivid dreams.
Although Sleep MD contains potentially effective ingredients, they won't list the dosage amount of each ingredient. It's impossible to say if this supplement will or will not be effective for occasional insomnia.
