Many experts agree: eliminating toxins from your colon can be painful. But Oxy Flush, Oxygen America's latest colon cleansing supplement, claims experts have it all wrong.

"Other colon cleansers use herbs and chemicals to irritate your colon into contracting, or worse yet, they force your cells to squeeze out your fluids and you lose vital electrolytes, causing weakness," says the makers of Oxy Flush. "OxyFlush simply turns waste solids into liquids and gasses."

You read that right--Oxy Flush claims it can remove toxins by converting your fecal matter into liquids and gasses. Sound far-fetched? It's actually sound science. Using a process called "active oxidation", Oxy Flush literally oxidizes the fecal matter, converting these toxin-laden solids into other forms--namely, liquids and gasses--which can be easily eliminated by the digestive tract. Better yet, Oxy Flush claims it is completely safe and all-natural. Or is it?

What Ingredients are in Oxy Flush? Oxy Flush contains magnesium and citric acid.

Do the ingredients in Oxy Flush cleanse the colon? Yes. According to Darren Scott, a natural health practitioner and director of GreenBarley.com, magnesium oxide has been shown to gently eliminate toxins from the colon, making it one of the best ingredients for colon cleansing.

"However, magnesium oxide's main cleansing benefits are derived from its ability to promote hydration," says Scott. "That is, once the oxygen is liberated from the magnesium oxide, it reacts with hydrogen to form water inside the intestinal tract. This oxidation and hydration process helps soften and liquefy the impacted and hardened faecal [sic] matter."

This assertion is nearly identical to the claims made by Oxy Flush. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) debates the holistic nature of magnesium, however, saying it only causes bowel movements because of its natural laxative activity.

Is Oxy Flush safe? For most people, yes. Because magnesium oxide has been shown to cause mild cramping and diarrhea, it may not be ideal for people with digestive disorders.

Verdict: It's true that Oxy Flush can promote regularity--a key “benefit” promoted by colon cleansers--but is it due to oxidation? Not so, according to the NIH. Still, Oxy Flush maintains it works, even if health experts don't agree with their medical assertions.
