Like most colon cleansers, Colon Xtra Cleanse claims the key to good health is regular, safe colon cleansing--but the claims don't end there. Colon Xtra Cleanse also claims it can improve the health of your hair, skin tone, nails and even help you lose weight, without having to change your eating or exercise habits.

As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Unfortunately, Colon Xtra Cleanse is one out of virtually hundreds of supplements making these exact claims--and those supplements haven't performed well either.

What ingredients are in Colon Xtra Cleanse? Colon Xtra Cleanse contains calcium, iodine, fenugreek, ginger, dandelion root, fennel seed, yarrow flower, green tea extract, hawthorn berries, red cover, tumeric, red raspberry, skullcap, burdock, cranberry extract, chickweed, papaya, milk thistle, yellow dock root, alfalfa leaf, Protease 4.5, amylase, lipase and cellulase.

Do the ingredients in Colon Xtra Cleanse promote colon cleansing? Unfortunately, none of its ingredients have been shown to promote emptying of the bowel, a necessary part of colon cleansing. But green tea may contain antioxidant and anti-obesity activity, according to several health organizations.

According to a 2009 report on the University of Maryland's website, green tea was shown to contain powerful antioxidants called polyphenols, which may prevent the oxidation of healthy cells. This can reduce a person's risk for numerous cancers, including prostate, colorectal and breast cancer.

Is Jason Winters Intestinal Colon Cleanser safe? A more recent study reported by About.com reveals something more astonishing: regular consumption of green tea can increase daily thermogenesis--the process of burning off fat stores--by as much as 43 percent.

But can green tea eliminate dangerous toxins from the colon? Not necessarily, says experts. Most experts believe these toxins don't actually exist, much to the chagrin of the supplement distributors behind these claims.

Is Colon Xtra Cleanse safe? Colon Xtra Cleanse has been shown to be clinically safe for most people. Again, if you have a chronic health condition, it's always best to check with your doctor before taking any supplement.

Verdict: While green tea has been clinically shown to promote weight loss and reduce the risk for certain cancers, there isn't any evidence that it can eliminate toxins from the colon. This is one of the few colon cleansers that has been shown to be clinically safe, however.
