Almighty Cleanse is a seven day colon cleansing system that claims to remove fecal matter from the intestinal walls, which reportedly improves nutrient absorption and intestinal function. Their program includes a two-part system, titled Formula 1 and Formula 2, which facilitate the removal of "fecal" buildup on the intestinal wall and the elimination of harmful toxins, called "impurities" by their makers. They recommend cycling their program once every season for long-term colon management--using it continuously is not recommended because their formula is reportedly too "effective' for continuous use.
What ingredients does Almighty Cleanse contain? Almighty Cleanse contains cape aloe, senna, barberry, cascara sagrada, rhubarb, garlic, black walnut, wormwood, cloves, fennel, ginger and cayenne. Its second formula also contains psyllium, bentonite, flax, apple pectin, slippery elm, marshmallow, fennel, activated willow charcoal and psyllium seed.
Do the ingredients in Almighty Cleanse help cleanse the colon? There is currently no clinical evidence that shows any of its ingredients--and this includes senna--can eliminate toxins from the intestinal tract. But senna and cascara sagrada can improve a certain aspect of intestinal health: your ability to have more frequent bowel movements. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), both senna and cascara sagrada are classified as stimulant laxatives, which stimulate the bowel to encourage faster elimination. For short term use, they can be effective for treating constipation, but long term use has been associated with laxative dependence, increased constipation and bloating--all conditions Almighty Cleanse claims to treat. Both ingredients also contain possibly serious side effects which can affect the heart, bowel and gastrointestinal tract, making it unsafe for people with heart or gastrointestinal disorders.
Is Almighty Cleanse safe? No. Senna and cascara sagrada have been linked to several common but serious side effects, including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, severe stomach cramping, stomach irritation and uncontrollable bowel movements. It may also cause bloody stools, dizziness, tiredness and rectal bleeding.
Verdict: If you're more concerned about the frequency of your bowel movements, Almighty Cleanse contains all the necessary components to facilitate quicker, more frequent bowel movements. Unfortunately, its ability to eliminate intestinal toxins seems very minimal at best.
