What is it?

Super Flex Joint Formula is a natural, anti- inflammatory supplement that claims to reduce joint pain and inflammation, while promoting the production of substances that help cushion the joints, called collagen. "This advanced formula includes a special blend of ingredients that actually inhibits the COX-2 enzyme," Super Flex Joint Formula reports. "[This is] responsible for painful joint and muscle inflammation, including knees, hips, wrists, elbows, neck, shoulders, hands and feet." Used regularly, it claims to be just as effective--if not more effective--than aspirin and ibuprofen, medications that are FDA-approved to reduce inflammation and pain.

Do the ingredients in Super Flex help improve joint health?

According to a preliminary trial reported by Oregon State University, regular use of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, may help improve morning stiffness, walking time and joint swelling caused by osteoarthritis, a type of joint-degenerating disease. The study, which had 18 RA patients take 1,200 milligrams of curcumin for approximately two weeks, noted significant improvements in their ability to use their joints with lessened pain, with researchers comparing its effects to phenylbutazone, a medication currently approved to treat RA. According to a 2006 trial funded by the National Institutes of Health, glucosamine may also lessen pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee. The findings, which were officially published as the Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial, revealed that daily supplementation of glucosamine helped lessen pain associated with moderate to severe cases of OA, though few changes were seen in people with less severe forms of the disease.

Is Super Flex safe?

Not for diabetics. Glucosamine has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels, which could enhance the effects of some diabetic medications, possibly putting them as risk for hypoglycemia. Otherwise, this supplement is safe to use.
