We reviewed each of the most popular prostate supplements like Prostavar, Prosvent, Super Beta Prostate, and Prostalex Plus for the natural ingredients: saw palmetto, beta-sitosterol, quercetin, and icariin which help to alleviate prostate problems associated with BPH. Each plays a vital role in reducing inflammation and irritation of the prostate, a condition called prostatitis. Together, they work synergistrically to reduce the symptoms of an enlarged prostate which include frequent urination, weak urine flow, and painfully diffcult urination.
Saw palmetto is a natural herbal extract of the fruit of the serenoa rapens tree. The berries are rich in fatty acids and phytosterols, and their use for urinary and prostate problems has been historically documented.[1] The use of saw palmetto for the treatment BPH and its associated urination problems is widespread in European countries. It isn't used as much in America simply because of ignorance of its existence.
Beta-sitosterol, a phytosterol, is ubiquitous among the plant kingdom and is found in avocadoes, pumpkin seeds, cashews, rice bran, wheat germ, pecans, black cumin seed, and a variety of other plants.[2] Beta-sitosterol is chemically very similar to cholesterol and is readily absorbed into the bloodstream, lowering cholesterol levels. In many medical studies, it was shown that when used in conjunction with saw palmetto, beta sitosterol is an "effective option in the treatment of BPH."[3]
Quercetin is a powerful natural antioxidant found in the coloring of the skins of apples and red onions. It is a type of chemical called a flavonoid which are all antioxidants. Quercetin is a natural anti-histimine and anti-inflamatory compound that reduces inflammation and irritation of the prostate, a condition called prostatitis.[4].
Finally, icariin, a type of flavonoid, helps to improve sexual function of the prostate commonly lost when the prostate becomes inflamed, irritated, or hyperplasic. It shares several reaction mechanisms with prescription drugs commonly used in western medicine to treat impotence. It acts as a PDE5 inhibitor[5][6][7], enhances the production of bioactive nitric oxide[8], and mimics the effects of testosterone[9].

Prostavar achieved the highest lab scores of any natural supplement!
Prostavar Analysis
A review of the chemical analysis report on Prostavar makes it obvious why it is the best prostate supplement for BPH, and explains why so many men report great success with their prostate as a result of taking it. The marks are exceptionally high in each category. Not only are the beta sitosterol high at 417 and free fatty acids super high at 318, the most impressive marks are that quercetin is at almost 87 (while 99% of the products we tests have none ) and Icariin at almost 21 (again an area where 99% of products tested scored a 0). Prostavar also recorded the highest total polyphenolics at 96.6. This number is very hard to achieve because of the extraction process needed to produce such a high amount, but is extremely important because this measures the potency of the antioxidant characteristics which not only help your prostate but also may reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems. Remember these scores are PER DOSE! It has more in ONE DOSE than many of the prostate supplements have in their entire bottle! Bottom line: record breaking score. Think: Tiger Woods, Ted Williams, Micky Mantle and Jerry West all rolled into one!
After reviewing the unbelievable results we rated Prostavar the No. #1 Prostate Supplement Of The Year! Prostavar is available at www.prostavar.com or by calling 1-800-815-2398.

Grade A
Vasotrexx is pricey but lives up to its claims!
Vasotrexx Analysis
Our choice as the number two prostate supplement in the land! Dartford Kent Nutraceuticals has produced a distinctive blue tablet formula that is chock full of key ingredients necessary to shrink an enlarged prostate and reduce pain. Survey sheet comments were kind as well. While its laboratory scores were not as strong as those of the top-rated Prostavar, they are better than all others we tested. High marks for free fatty acids, quercetin, and over 100mg of total sterols! The only drawback here for some men is the high price they charge. A one-month supply of a 60-pill bottle is $89 a month. The company likes to say they are the Rolls Royce of prostate supplements. At that price they are correct. Though no one likes to put a price on health, and some would pay almost anything to be able to sleep through the night, $89 does seem to be a steep price for all those not on the Forbes 500. Despite the high price and aura of arrogance from the company, their product is excellent and can help men shrink their prostate and relieve other prostate problems as well.

Hi-Tech Pharmaceutical: Prost-RX Review |

Grade A-
Prost-RX: good budget supplement!
Prost-RX Analysis
From the highly regarded Atlanta-based supplement manufacturer
Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, comes this exceptional product. We have it rated the number
3 prostate supplement due to its exceptional formula and high level of ingredients.
While many products are essentially one-dimensional (e.g., all saw palmetto or all
beta-sitosterol) Prost-Rx got high marks across the board. Only a few steps behind
Prostavar and Vasotrexx, it is clearly the best of the rest. Many survey sheets remarked
how well Prost-Rx has worked and how it is more effective than Flomaxx
and Avadart. Super product developed by master nutraceutical formulator Jared
Wheat.

Source Naturals - Prosta Response Review |
|

Grade B+
Prosta Response
Source Naturals has been putting out excellent products for over 28 years having been founded in 1982 by Ira Goldberg. This formula is another well-done effort. Like number 1 rated Prostavar, this formula requires a three pill a day serving size. Great number were recorded in all four key catagories we test for. Most impressive was the 224mg per serving of quercetin, an important ingredient that many manufactures simply overlook. Not these guys, they hit it over the fence. Top notch product. Grade B+

Vital Max - Prostanol Review |
|

Grade B
Prostanol is an okay prostate supplement. If you only want average results, then this is for you.
Prostanol
This fine “soft gel” prostate supplement from VitalMax Vitamins was designed by Dr. Al Sears, an advocate for the use of natural health products for men with prostate problems. Dr. Sears does an excellent job designing men’s health supplements. Prostanol scored better than most of the products in lab reports. Uses an 85% extract of saw palmetto and had 20mg of beta sitosterol, and provides 266% of the RDA of Zinc. Surprised, though, that pygeum is not present in the formula. The proprietary phytosterol blend of campsterol, stigmasterol, brassicasterol and sitostanol is effective. The regular price for a one-month supply of this prostate pill is $57.45.

New Vitality - Super Beta Prostate Review |
|

Grade B
Super Beta Prostate has sensational levels of beta sitosterol!
Click here to see the full review.
Super Beta Prostate
The heavily advertised prostate supplement from New Vitality of New York is one of the better supplements we have tested! It made it to our prestigious Top 5 supplements, finishing at number 4, because of its extremely high levels of beta-sitosterol and free fatty acids. Designed by chemist Roger Mason, Super Beta Prostate contains 1,040mg per serving of total betaa-sitosterol and 46mg of free fatty acids. While these levels are both extremely high, it almost seems like overkill. However, it would have been better if these levels were lower and they included other important compounds as well. Many prostate survey sheets said Super Beta Prostate did not work for them.
This is most likely attributed to the fact that not all men have the same prostate problems. And while beta sitosterol and free fatty acids are certainly vital, other compounds are also important. Still an excellent prostate supplement from a fine company.

Natrol - Prostat-Excell Review |
|

Grade B
Prostat-Excell
Natural supplement powerhouse Natrol surprised our panel by performing better in the lab than expected. In the past other Natrol products have been tested, only to fall far short of expectations. Whiel the free faty acid score was basically average, the total phytosterols score was among the best. A whopping 365mg per serving. Top notch company, based in Southern California, delivers a winner.
ProstatExcell Basics: This vitamin-enhanced supplement claims to support healthy prostate function by delivering antioxidants to the prostate, improving reproductive health. They claim their nutritionally-balanced formula allows it to attack prostate problems at its source, eliminating pain, inflammation or enlargement caused by poor prostate health. Although they won't say what it helps cure, they claim it can improve prostate health within 30 days of use.

North Star - Prostate Defense Review |
|
Grade B
A lack of quercetin and icariin causes this Prostate Defense to fall short.
Prostate Defense
North Star Nutritionals of Baltimore produces this decently-designed prostate supplement. It’s a “soft gel,” and the suggested use is four a day. Like all intelligently designed prostate supplements, Prostate Defense contains pygeum extract yielding 13% beta-sitosterol and uses an 85% extract of saw palmetto. These top quality ingredients were evident in the nice laboratory score this prostate supplement received. While it was off the mark with quercetin and icariin, it is still a better-than-average prostate supplement. You can get a bottle of Prostate Defense direct from North Star for under $50 a bottle.

Solaray Pygeum & Saw Palmetto Review |
|
|
Grade B-
High levels of free fatty acids from the Saw Palmetto Berry Oil are the star of this Solaray Pygeum & Saw Palmetto
Solaray Pygeum & Saw Palmetto Analysis
This prostate supplement gets high marks for its 286mg of free fatty acids. While this is an excellent score, the lab results indicate the ingredients is essentially one dimensional. With zero total beta sitoterol, quercetin and icariin and only 9mg total polyphenolics, the rest of the the rest of the formula needs to be beefed-up. Think: Archie Manning on the New Orleans Saints--a superstar with a lousy surrounding cast doesn't make a champion. After reviewing the results we gave it a B because of the excellent free fatty acid score.

Best Prosate Review
With all the hype on the Best Prostate website, we had extremely high expectations that it would be one of the best formulas on the market. We were saddened by the results.
Best Prostate has a chart on their website comparing their formula to other beta-sitosterol intensive products. These comparisons’ are apparently just based upon label claims, because in the unbiased lab reports – where it really counts – Super Beta Prostate, literally destroyed Best Prostate. While Best Prostate posted a nice 230mg of phytosterols, Super Beta Prostate scored a 1,040mg! That’s five times stronger. An in the free fatty acid category Best Prostate score a very poor 0.661 – that’s less than 1mg! This lab test is a perfect example of how advertising claims and supplement facts claims don’t always tell the entire story. At the end of the day Best Prostate is still an average product because of the 230mg of phytosterols, but just not an elite or super elite formula. Grade C

Prosvent is an incomplete formula lacking quercitin and icariin which keeps it from being a home run.
Click here for the full review.
Prosvent
Maybe you have seen the half-hour television infomercial for Prosvent featuring UCLA educated physician Dr. Larry May. The show and commercials do a terrific job of reviewing how important it is for men to be proactive in caring for their prostate. Dr. Larry May goes on to explain that to eliminate or at least minimize the chance of developing BPH, men should take his Prosvent supplement. Talk about biased!
Prosvent contains all the key ingredients of a good prostate supplement: saw palmetto, pygeum, Vitamin D & E, zinc, selenium and pumpkin seed oil as well as lycopene. We reviewed the laboratory tests with average scores. This supplement was nowhere near the high scores of Prostavar or some of the better prostate supplements.
However, Prosvent is good enough to help some men with mild prostate enlargement or mild BPH. The only complaint about Prosvent is that it costs $79 a bottle. The high price might be necessary because of the high cost of purchasing the TV infomercial spotsottom line is this is a decent product.

Grade C
Zero extracts and low quality powder ingedients makes this Prostec a loser.
ProsTec
This company's advertising promises much more than what
the product actually delivers. This very simple 7-ingredient prostate formula uses ZERO extracts and consists mostly of powders. The ideal form of these natural compounds would be “extracts," NOT powders. Furthermore, the lab report results for ProsTec were poor. It is distributed by Health Advantage of Carmel, NY. These hard tablets seem very overpriced for the benefits they would deliver. Men who have commented about this prostate pill in survey sheets were not very impressed. Their other prostate pill, T-Pros Ultra, also performed poorly. These products are sold over the very “medical-sounding” website www.healthmd.com. Yet the actual benefits you would get using this prostate pill will be far less than you imagine.

Schiff - Prostate Health Review |

We expected more from Schiff Prostate Health, one of the most popular herbal supplements
Click here for the full review.
Schiff Prostate Health Review
We expected higher scores from one of the oldest natural supplement companies, which just entered their 70th year in business. This was not the case with this low-priced prostate supplement. While it does have a decent 42mg of free fatty acids, the rest of the ingredients is virtually void of the other active extracts that can best help your prostate. Remember, low-priced supplements can be a waste of money no matter how cheap the price, if they do not have high levels of active ingredients in them. Still the 42mg gets them a "Gentleman's C."

Liquid Health - Prostate Care Review |
|
Grade C
The liquid delivery this prostate company uses is a complete scam! Just look at the levels in the lab test!
Liquid Health Prostate Care
This lone liquid prostate product is the only one we have ever encountered. This company specializes in liquid formulas for both humans and pets. While the idea is good–especially for men who do not like to swallow pills-the formula and test results were average. This supplement has only 80mg of saw palmetto, and a decent 100mg of pygeum with 13% beta sitosterol. Must be refrigerated after first use. Average prostate supplement, but a wise choice if taking pills is a problem for you.

TRIM - Better Prostate Review |
|
Grade C
Low levels of key ingredients make makes Better Prostate a loser.
Better Prostate
This 17-ingredient product contains very low levels of important compounds. It also contains an herb called “Butchers Broom” which has no scientific studies validating it as being beneficial for prostate health. The lone bright spot in the formula is the 85% to 95% free fatty acid content of the saw palmetto used. Unfortunately, it only contains 50mg of saw palmetto. Better Prostate is manufactured by Trim International, a company more known for making women’s beauty supplements than men’s products. Average lab results, and a $69-a-month price tag don’t add up to a winner.

Wonder Laboratories - Royal Forte Prostate Review |
|
Grade C
Royal Forte Prostate has more downsides than upsides, and substitutes cheap ingredients instead of high quality extracts.
Royal Forte Prostate
This prostate supplement finished in the middle of the pack because of its formulation. Developed by Wonder Laboratories of White House, TN, this supplement does not contain the highest grade ingredients. Example: the saw palmetto extract yields between 44% to 55% beta sitosterol. Compare that with the 85% you find in better prostate supplements. The pygeum used is a powdered bark, NOT an extract. However, it does have nice levels of vitamins D3 and E as well as zinc and copper. A one-month supply is under $50. But at the end of the day this prostate supplement is only average.

Prostate Health - PR Complex Review |
|
Grade C
A minuscule quantity of quercitin and a lack of other ingredients make PR Complex a loser.
PR Complex
It is good to see that this prostate company has recognized the need for quercitin to be present. The bad news is that they have included only minuscule amounts of it. This is probably due to the high cost of obtaining quercitin and they would rather be able to claim it has all the benefits of quercitin while pocketing the money it would take to have an effective amount present in the product.

Physician's Choice - Super Prostate Formula Review |
|
Grade C-
Super Prostate Formula isn't a well rounded prostate vitamin.
Super Prostate Formula
This prostae supplement from Physicians Choice is a prime example of a one-dimensional product; it has decent fatty acid levels but has practically no polyphenolics and zero icariin or quercitin. If you feel like using a one-dimensional prostate supplement, then we recommend Super Beta Prostate over this formula from Physician's Choice, because at least Super Beta Prostate has a high level of beta sitosterol.
Quercitin is one of the most powerful things you can take to help with BPH. And while this product may provide good nutritional support for the prostate, it does nothing to address the swelling and inflammation that is at the heart of prostate problems. This company company uses reoccuring billing which raised our eyebrows because that is normally the biggest warning sign to an ineffective product. They simply count on people forgetting about being enrolled in the program so they can bill you for more of a product you would never want to order again. Grade C-.

Low levels of key ingredients make Urinozinc Prostate Wellness a loser.
Urinozinc Prostate Wellness
Urinozinc's packaging touts studies from the Journal of the American Medical Association on saw
palmetto, but the lab results (which don't lie) show this product has ZERO free fatty acids! Must be filled with worthless saw palmetto powder and not extract. They have zinc in their name, yet Urinozinc only provides 63% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of zinc! We are doubtful Urinozinc will provide much support, let alone give you any relief from an enlarged prostate or BPH!

Grade F
Shocking!!! This lab report reveals that you can't always trust what is claimed on a product label. The Prostate Formula is a rip-off!
The Prostate Formula Analysis
This prostate supplement from Real Health Laboratories can be summed up in one word - SHOCKING!
We were absolutely stunned when the tests showed it did not contain one single mg of beta sitosterol, free fatty acids, polyphenolics, quercetin or icariin! A goose egg across the board! At first we thought it must be some sort of mistake on the part of the lab, but they assured us there was no mistake. So we tried another bottle from a totally different lot number purchased at a leading national drug store and it produced the same results! Needless to say, this prostate product is not good. Seems like a ripoff!

Hampshire Labs - Antiiva Review |

Grade F
Low levels of key ingredients make this Antiiva a loser.
Antiiva
This is a classic example of a prostate supplement that is completely worthless and tarnishes the reputation of the entire natural health industry.
Sold only through mail-orders by the same group of “weasels” who sell Prosta-8 and Prostend (see write-ups in their sections). They will try to trick you into believing this is a legitimate prostate product by using pseudo science, phony testimonials, and a “pharmaceutical-sounding” name like Antiiva. The lab reports expose this prostate "supplement" for what it is: a ripoff. If you were unfortunate enough to spend money on this you would not have seen any results. Total Scam. If you get a letter in the mail from these jokers, throw it in the trash! This product is a stain on the prostate supplement industry. Antiiva needs to up the ante.

Hampshire Labs - Prost-8 Review |

Grade F
Low levels of key ingredients make Prost-8 a loser.
Prost-8
This supplement is from Hampshire Labs, the Minneapolis-based company that specializes in direct mail letters that promise the moon, but delivers poor products. They also make the do-nothing prostate products Prostend and Antiiva. Prost-8 touts itself as the number one product in the world for “optimum prostate health.” How does it work when it contains ZERO saw palmetto and ZERO Pygeum, and ZERO beta-sitosterol? Outlandish claims and a subpar prostate supplement is the only thing you'll find here. Laboratory analysis confirms that a purchase of Prost-8 would be a waste of your money.

Gero Vita - Prostata Review |

Grade F
Prostata is an abominal failure of a prostate supplement!
Prostata
GeroVita had sold over 4 million bottles of this prostate supplement which failed miserably in lab testing. In fact, it looks like a classic example of "powder in a bottle" with virtually zero potency! A total rip off BPH supplement! Priced under $40 a bottle, it is a complete waste of money based on the independent laboratory analysis. Many survey sheets complained these prostate supplements did nothing for them. Now we know why. Company founder and creator of this prostate supplement Almon Glen Brasswell, gained national attention a few years ago when he, along with financier Marc Rich, were pardoned by President Clinton in the final days of his presidency. Brasswell (who died last year) was a twice-convicted felon, and it looks like he is still ripping people off!
